The 6 Reasons You Are Afraid To Change

Tony robbins, unleashing the power within, motivational quotes, fear and doubt

Have you ever known a person who despite your best efforts to motivate them in a new direction they refused to take your advice even when they knew it was in their best interest? That is the same reason you don’t change in the direction you know you must. Your “musts” have been pushed so far down the hill invisible and yet gnawing.

We don’t change because we are afraid to. Your friends who certainly could benefit from your guidance suffer from the same malady as you, “Someday.” Let’s be honest.

Every reason you give yourself for not being the man or woman you want to be, the owner of that company, the happy spouse or significant person, the great employee the better son or daughter is just an excuse. The excuses have become so rampant you have convinced yourself.

You have become comfortable in a life just like the Wizard of Oz. You have made it real based on your fears. Remember the Great and Powerful Oz was a small man himself afraid. Is that how you want to represent your life? Can you turn things around? I was inclined to say “live.” We both know traipsing through life with half-spent talent is no life at all. I’ll help you make it easier. Jim

You don’t want to change.

Maybe you think you want to change something. But is it really your wish? Or is it the wish of your parents, boss, partner, friends or society?

If you don’t really want to make the change deep down then it will be very hard to go the distance. Yes, you can begin but if there is no inner drive to do it then you will lose motivation easily and feel like giving up all the time after a while.

What to do about it: Sit down and really think about whose goals you are working towards. If they are not yours the think about what you can do to stop working on them and spend more time on your own consciously chosen goals instead.

This is also why it is hard – if not impossible – to change someone else. So be careful about such wishes and hopes.

You don’t feel courageous enough.

Change can be scary. Doing things for the first time or stepping into the unknown can pretty frightening. You may feel like you need some courage to make those changes you want, to take those first steps.

What to do about it: Well, as Eleanor Roosevelt once said:

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
